Every
year on the first weekend in October members of the Company A, 12th
New Hampshire Volunteers set up a recruitment camp at 16 Ridge Top Road in New
Durham, NH. On both days, spectators can talk to Union Soldiers and observe
camp life such as soldiers cooking their food. In Addition to this there is a live
demonstration of the enlistment process, such as inspection and plenty of
drilling, firing demonstrations, period children’s games and maybe even a sham
(a mock battle).
On
Sunday Morning the Camp Chaplain holds a period church service.
***Our special thanks to the new Durham
Historical Society for their cooperation and assistance in this event, without
whose support and generosity this event would not be possible.***
